Yes, you read that right—there’s a day every year dedicated to honoring the most important piece of clothing we wear. UNDERWEAR! Why dedicate a day to underwear? While it may seem like a simple piece of clothing, underwear is one of the most needed items in your and your kids' drawers!
We all want the best for our kids, right? Ensuring they have clean, comfortable underwear is one of those small but huge steps we can take to support their daily well-being and growth. It might not be the first thing we think about, but trust us, it makes a big difference.
First, good hygiene is a must for our active kiddos. Underwear is a barrier, keeping their skin protected and their outer clothes clean. Think about how much they run around, play, and get sweaty—having that extra layer helps absorb moisture and prevent irritation. Comfortable, well-fitting underwear also means fewer distractions and more focus on what really matters to them: having fun, learning, and just being kids.
After hygiene comes comfort; we all know how it feels to wear something that's just not right – it’s the same for our kids. If their underwear is too tight, too loose, or made from scratchy material, it can be a constant source of discomfort. Soft, breathable fabrics that fit well can make all the difference. When our kids feel good in their clothes, they can move freely and confidently, ready to take on the day with a smile.
Just like us, kids feel better about themselves when they're comfortable in what they're wearing. Good underwear that stays in place and feels great can give them a little extra boost of confidence, which is so important, especially as they grow and develop their self-esteem and body image. For any of the above to be possible, kids need access to clean, comfortable underwear. This isn't a given for many kids, and that’s where initiatives like Lucky & Me's partnership with Cocotree Kids come into play.
Lucky & Me's Partnership with CoCotree Kids
Here at Lucky & Me, we believe every child deserves clean, comfortable underwear. That is why we have partnered with Cocotree Kids, a charitable organization dedicated to providing essential items, such as underwear, to underprivileged children. They work to address the often-overlooked need for clean, comfortable underwear, ensuring that children have the basics they need to feel confident, healthy, and ready to face their daily activities. Not having enough underwear is a big problem for many kids, but it often gets overlooked. Unlike food or shelter, underwear isn't something we talk about much, even though it's super important. Many children in the U.S. don't have enough clean underwear, and it's time we start addressing this issue.
In Massachusetts, where Cocotree Kids is based, it’s illegal to sell used underwear at thrift stores. Low-income families often have to use cash to purchase this necessity. By providing free underwear, we help families redirect their money to other essential needs like bills, food, and more! Imagine no longer having to worry about such simple clothing for children. The relief these families feel is beyond words. Through our partnership with Cocotree Kids beginning in 2022, we’ve donated underwear to over 2,500 children, providing each of them with a week’s worth of fresh undies!
In addition to donating to underserved children, Cocotree also started distributing our underwear to Mass General Hospital and Newton-Wellesley Hospital ERs this past year. Before, kids who came through these hospitals often had to leave with diapers or maternity underwear. Thanks to our donations, they now leave with new, well-fitting underwear, helping them maintain their dignity during tough times.
Lucky & Me loves our partnership with Cocotree Kids because we know that every child deserves to feel comfortable and confident. Kids need proper underwear to be their best selves, allowing them to play, learn, and grow without discomfort or worry. By donating underwear, we’re helping ensure every child has access to good underwear. Something we believe to be so important, especially because we want kids to feel awesome every day!
